Our Project

In the autumn of 2006 we privately founded the "Searchlight School" in Mamfe in the south west of Cameroon. We are a group of dedicated friends of Africa in Switzerland. The project has mainly been enabled and financed by Swiss donations. However, the school fees, paid by the students and various self-financing ventures also help maintain the project. The school is led by our partners in Mamfe and is directed mainly towards underprivileged children, mostly girls - for the schoolgirls of today are the mothers and breadwinners of tomorrow. Mostly the parents of disadvantaged children are separated, sick, deceased, out of work or underage. In Mamfe alone, more than 5000 children are registered as being fully or half orphaned; accordingly the interest of us taking up as many underprivileged children as we can is huge. Unfortunately, due to the costs, we are each year forced to majorly restrict the number of registrations of the socially underprivileged students.

Since the founding of this school, 420 children aged 3 to 10 have attended the Cameroonian-Swiss "Searchlight School". The school tries to set itself apart from other schools in the region, by paying special attention to the admission of children in need as well as to the quality of the supervision, encouragement and meeting of special needs. The classes of kindergarten and primary school are cared for by a motivated team of 15 teachers and helpers.
